Crowd noise, fans run towards Tidus’ house and wave as he emerges. Creepy Little Kid steps out of nowhere and joins crowd.

A Street in Zanarkand

Tidus walks along, snorts at outdoor screen displaying Jecht’s portrait.

Voiceover (Zanar)

I was in a coffee shop, running away from home when I heard the news. Our hero, Jecht, gone. Vanished into thin air! My dad must have been his biggest fan. I knew how sad he’d be. Heck, we all were that day. Zanar,” I says to myself, “What are you thinking?” I went running straight back home. We sat up talking ’bout Jecht all night. My dad and I never talked so much. Whoa… Didn’t mean to reminisce, folks. Anyway… Ten years later, the Jecht Memorial Cup tournament is today! The two teams that have won through to the finals are… of course, the Abes from A-East, and the Duggles from C-South. I know there’s a lot of people out there today to see the star of the Abes! In just one year, he’s become the team’s number one player! He’s Jecht’s blood, and the new hope of blitzball! What kind of super play will he show us today? Will we see his father’s legendary shot? I don’t think I’m the only one excited here, folks!

俺がそのニュースを聞いたのは、 ３回目の家出をしている時だった みんなのヒーロー・ジェクトが練習中に行方不明 捜索打ち切り･･････ 俺の親父はジェクトの熱狂的なファンでさ～ 親父驚いてるだろうなぁ～ ショックだろうなぁ～ そう考えたら、なんだか泣けてきた･･････ 俺、慌てて家に帰ったな～ で、一晩中ジェクトのことを話し合ったんだ あんなに親父と話したのは久しぶりだった･･････ おいおいおい回想シーン入っちまったぁ はぁ･･････ さて、あれから10年！ 今年から始まったジェクト記念トーナメント！ そのきつ～い潰し合いから勝ち残ったのは、そう、東Ａ地区のエイブスと、南Ａ地区のダグルス！ 注目はもちろん、エイブスのエースのあいつ！ 去年のルーキーが今年はいきなりエースだ！ あのジェクトの血を受け継いだ新しい星！ 今日はどんな動きを見せてくれるのか！ 今日こそ、あの幻のシュートが炸裂するのか！ 期待するなってのが、無理だよなぁ～！

Front gate of stadium.

Tidus shoves his way through admirers gathered outside.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Make way, make way!	通して通して！

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Coming through, sorry!	はいはい ごめんね～

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Hey, I’m gonna be late!	遅れちゃうっつーの！

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Hey, let go of me!	ひっぱんなって！

FMV: Zanarkand

Blitzball game. Enter Auron. Sin arrives and shreds the city. Tidus falls with a squawk as the stadium explodes.

Outside Ruined Stadium

Screaming spectators flee stadium like rats leaving sinking ship. Tidus staggers to feet, approaches figure leaning against rubble.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Auron!	アーロン！

Tidus	【ティーダ】
What are you doing here?	なにボサっとしてんだよ！

Auron	【アーロン】
I was waiting for you. (Walks away)	おまえを待っていた

Tidus	【ティーダ】
What are you talking about?	また ワケわかんないことを･･････

Zanarkand — Overpass

Tidus staggers along, opposite direction from running people. There’s a flash, and Creepy Little Kid appears.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Huh?

For an instant the running figures and the whole city are frozen.

Creepy Kid
It begins.	はじまるよ

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Wha?	あん･･････？

Creepy Kid
Don’t cry.	泣かないで

Flash of light. Kid vanishes. Movement/chaos resumes.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
What the…?	･･････なんだ？

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Hey, wait!	待てよ！

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Hey, not this way!	なあ こっちヤバいって！

Auron	【アーロン】
Look!	見ろ

FMV: We Call It Sin

Bubble of water hovers over Zanarkand.

Auron	【アーロン】
We called it “Sin.”	俺たちは『シン』と呼んでいた

Tidus	【ティーダ】
“Sin”?	『シン』･･････？

FMV: Sinspawn

Sin-tentacle punches through building and sheds sinscales.

Sinscales fall on road surround them. Tidus bats at monsters, falls down. Auron holds out sword.

Auron	【アーロン】
Take it.	使え

Tidus	【ティーダ】
(Takes sword, stands up, can barely lift it)	わわっ！

Auron	【アーロン】
A gift from Jecht.	ジェクトのみやげだ

Tidus	【ティーダ】
My old man?	オヤジの！？

Tidus	【ティーダ】
	ぐっ！

Auron	【アーロン】
I hope you know how to use it.	使い方は実戦でな

First battle.

Auron	【アーロン】
These ones don’t matter. We cut through!	ザコにかまう時間はない 突破するぞ

More Sinscales appear.

Auron	【アーロン】
Don’t bother going after all of them. Cut the ones that matter, and run!	すべて倒そうとは思うな 邪魔な奴だけ斬り捨てて走れ！

Boss Fight: Tentacles

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Get out of my town!	好き勝手あばれやがって！

Auron	【アーロン】
Some can’t wait to die!	まとめて かたづけてやろう

They run up the road past the viewscreen with Jecht.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
What are you laughing at, old man?	笑ってんじゃねえよ くそオヤジ

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Auron! Let’s get out of here!	アーロン！ 逃げたほうがいいって！

Auron	【アーロン】
We’re expected.	迎えが来ている

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Huh?	はあ？

Auron	【アーロン】
(Runs ahead again)

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Gimme a break, man!	つきあってらんねえっての！

Fight: Surrounded by even more Sinscales.

Auron	【アーロン】
Hmph. This could be bad.	ふん 手に負えんな

Auron	【アーロン】
That–knock it down!	おい あいつを落すぞ

Auron points at contraption — “Tanker” — against curb.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
What?	なんで！

Auron	【アーロン】
Trust me. You’ll see.	面白いものを見せてやる

Knock down tanker, triggering explosion.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
	ああっ･･････あー！

Auron	【アーロン】
Go!	行け！

Both run. Tidus leaps as road collapses and catches far side, dangling by hands.

FMV: This Is It!

Tidus dangles, calling for help. Sin looms above, sucking up debris like black hole.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Auron!	アーロン！

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Auron!	アーロン！！

Auron	【アーロン】
You are sure?	いいんだな？

Auron	【アーロン】
This is it. This is your story. It all begins here.	覚悟を決めろ ほかの誰でもない これは おまえの物語だ

Auron is drawn into light, Tidus screams and gets pulled in too.

Sin — Dream’s End

Dreamlike, deserted Zanarkand. Flaming Abes symbol hangs behind a partial stadium.

Jecht	【ジェクト】
Hey!	おい！

Jecht	【ジェクト】
HEY!	おい！

Tidus	【ティーダ】
My…old man?	オヤジ･･････？

Tidus swims towards fuzzy image of Jecht standing on platform. Jecht turns into Tidus as a child.

Narration
I thought about a lot of things… like where I was, what I’d got myself into. I started to feel light-headed… and then, sleepy. I think I had a dream. A dream of being alone. I wanted someone– anyone, beside me… so I didn’t have to feel alone anymore.	いろいろ考えてたのは おぼえてる オレ どうなるんだ とか ここ どこだよ とか･･････ そのうち 頭がボーッとしてきてさ なんだか眠くなって･･････ 夢を見た気がする ひとりぼっちになる夢 誰でもいいから そばにいてほしい･･････ そんな気にさせる夢･･････だった

Tidus wakes up on pile of half-submerged rubble. Lightning flickers over large structure in distance.

Boss Fight with underwater monster, which almost swallows him.

Tidus flees into tunnel which collapses behind him.

In Baaj Ruins — Hall

Narration
I had made it out of the frying pan… and into the freezer. I thought I was going to die in this place.	事態はどんどん悪くなっていく 夢も希望もありません そんな気にさせる場所だと思った

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Cold… Need…fire.	さむいッス･･････ 火･･････ 火 どこだよ･･････

Gets a fire lit.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
I need food!	ハラへったぁ･･････

He dozes off.

Dream Sequence: Tidus’ room in Zanarkand

Auron stands in the doorway of Tidus’ houseboat

Tidus	【ティーダ】
What do you want?	今日は なに？

Auron	【アーロン】
It was a bad call. Your team lost because of you.	つまらないミスだったな あきらかに おまえのせいで負けた

Tidus	【ティーダ】
You came to say THAT?	そんなこと言いに来たのかよ！

Auron	【アーロン】
It’s been…ten years. I thought you’d be crying.	今日は･･････命日だ ひとりで泣いているかとな

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Who, me?	泣くかよ！

Creepy Kid	【謎の少年】
(Creepy kid suddenly in Auron’s place) You cried.	泣いてたよ

Back in Baaj — Hall

A shadow skitters around upper level. Tidus awakens, discovers fire’s dying.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Hey, wait! Wait! Don’t go out on me! Just hold on. I’ll get more wood!	っ？ お おいっ な なんだよ！？ 消えちゃう気か！？ あっちょっと待ってくれ なんか探してくっから！

Monster attacks. Boss battle.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Gimme a break!	勘弁してくれよ～

Five Al Bhed arrive. Rikku helps.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
You on my side? Cool!	味方！？ 助かるッス！

They finish off the monster.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Whew! That was close.	あ～ 助かった～！

A bearded Al Bhed grabs Tidus.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Hey, lemme go!	なにすんだよ！

Al Bhed in blue cap	【マスク男Ａ】
What is this?	こいつ なにものだ？

Spiked blond hair	【マスク男Ｂ】
A fiend! In human disguise!	マモノ だ！ にんげんに ばけて るんだ

Bearded Al Bhed	【マスク男Ｃ】
Yes! It is so!	そうだ！ そうに きまってる！

Gas mask guy	【マスク男Ｄ】
We kill it?	やっち まうか！？

???? (Girl)	【女性】
Wait! What if it is human?	まって！ にんげん だったら？

Gas mask	【マスク男Ｄ】
They are the same in death.	その ときは しかた ない

???? (Girl)	【女性】
I forbid it! We bring it with us.	だめ だよ！ ふねに つれて いこう

She walks up to Tidus, whispers…

???? (Girl)	【女性】
Sorry.	ごめん

She knocks him out.

Nighttime, Deck of Ship

Tidus wakes up and starts to rise

Spiked blond hair	【マスク男Ａ】
Sit, captive!! (Thwack)	おとなしく してろ！

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Hey, that hurts!	いてえんだよ

Gas mask guy	【マスク男Ｂ】
No moving, hear?	うごくなよ いいな！

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Whoa… Okay.	ま まいった

Brother comes on deck with the unnamed girl.

Brother	【アニキ】
Search him!	もちものを かくにんしろ

Rikku hoists Tidus to his feet, Brother gestures vigorously, mimes diving and swimming.

Tidus	【ティーダ】
Right. Whatever.	ぜんぜんわかんねぇ

Brother	【アニキ】
Do you not speak?	わかんないのか･･････

Hands Tidus a breather and mimes for him to put it on

Tidus	【ティーダ】
I said I don’t understand!	わかんねえっての！

Spiked blond hair	【マスク男Ａ】
Insolence! (Thwack)	きさま！

???? (Girl)	【女性】
Wait!	まって！

???? (Girl)	【女性】
He said you can stay if you make yourself useful.	仕事を手伝えば 少しの間 世話したげるってさ

Tidus	【ティーダ】
You…You understand me?	おまえ 言葉わかるのか！？

Gas mask	【マスク男Ｂ】
(Thwack)

Tidus	【ティーダ】
